Why choose Cesenatico?

Sea, culture, sports and entertainment

Traditional celebration of Garibaldi
The spectacular Palio della Cuccagna

The beautiful Canal Harbour is home to numerous fishing boats. The canal harbour, surrounded by the old-town centre of Cesenatico, can certainly be considered the main monument of the town. It was built in the early 14th century and, in 1502, became the object of attention of Leonardo da Vinci (the original drawings are kept in the National Library in Paris) who surveyed it and made a small drawing kept in a manuscript of his. The harbour docks are the real "streets" of the city, where much of the town’s social life still takes place and where visitors like to walk. It is here that the fishing boats are moored that mark the time in town with their trips out to sea .

The Land Section of the Maritime Museum offers visitors an extensive and fascinating journey dedicated to traditional seafaring on the upper and middle Adriatic. Around the lugger and bragozzo, two large boats placed in the centre of the pavilion, an exhibition route winds its way amid exhibits, period films, didactic installations and 3-D animated films,

illustrating the structure and construction of traditional boats and their propulsion and steering systems. In the Floating Section of the Museum, truly one of a kind, ten traditional boats are docked with their colourful "lugsails" marked with the symbols of the fishermen’s families.

The Marino Moretti Home Museum

Casa Moretti was the home of the writer and poet Marino Moretti, bequeathed to the Town of Cesenatico in order to preserve, along with the original furnishings, its library and archive with manuscripts and letters.

Casa Moretti has thus become a home-museum where visitors can make an ideal journey through the literary world of the twentieth century in the company of one of its most outstanding protagonists.

Piazzetta delle Conserve

In the Piazza delle Conserve , the "conserve" have all been refurbished. These buildings, with their inverted cone shape piercing the ground, once served as "ice houses" in which to store fish and produce ice: a true monument to the labours of the people on land while the fishermen were out at sea.

Pantani Museum

Marco Pantani (Cesena, 13 January 1970 - Rimini, 14 February 2004) was an Italian professional road bicycle racer, with characteristics of pure climber. Professional from 1992 to 2003, he won a Tour of Italy and Tour de France; It was also bronze medal at the World Championships of 1995 in line. Nicknamed "the Pirate", he obtained his best results in stage races: it is still the last Italian to have won the Tour de France, in 1998 (33 years after Felice Gimondi) and the last rider ever after Fausto Coppi, Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault, Stephen Roche and Miguel Indurain to win the Giro and the Tour in the same year.

Space Pantani is the multimedia museum entirely dedicated to Marco Pantani. The museum was opened to the public in October 2006 and is managed by the family Pantani in order to generate profits to be donated for charitable purposes.
